When you sign in to your AOL account to check your email, the form gives you the alternative to check a box next to a “Remember Me” option. This allows your browser to keep you signed in to your account indefinitely. However, if you clear your browser’s cache or cookies, or if you need to sign in to your AOL account from a different browser, you’ll have to review your account password. If you forget your account password, you can without much of a stress reset it with one of three different password reset options.
Visit the “My Account” page on the AOL website (see Resources).
Click the “Forgot Password?” link in the sign-in form.
Enter the AOL username for which you’ve forgotten the password in the subsequent form, as well as the CAPTCHA information. Click the “Next” button.
Select the option to receive a verification email at the alternative email listed in your AOL account, If you have already one. If you have, but you don’t remember the email id you added, click the “hint” link in the verification section to see it partially recognized. Click the “Next” button, then check the inbox of this email for the confirmation email; click the verification link in the email to go to the password reset page.
Enter a phone number at which you can get a verification code via SMS text if you don’t have an other email address added in your account or if you want to use an alternative confirmation method. Click the “Send” button; when you get the SMS message on your telephone, enter the code into the form and click the “Next” button to go to the password reset page.
Answer a security question you have previously assigned to your account as an alternative option to the SMS and email password reset methods. With this method, you should also enter either an alternative email address or enter the first and last name of the record holder.
Enter your new password on the “Create Your New Password” page, then type it again in the form. Your new password must be between six and 16 characters and is case-sensitive. Click “Next” to finish your new password.
AOL recommends that you add numbers and special characters, for example, symbols and punctuation marks, to strengthen your new password.
You can try to reset your account via the security question only 6 times. After the 6th unsuccessful attempt, AOL locks your account for 24 hours. You may neither sign in nor attempt to reset the password during that time.
